Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770–1844) was a Danish sculptor and one of the leading figures of Neoclassicism in Europe. He worked primarily in Rome and created works inspired by classical antiquity. His reliefs and sculptures were reproduced in porcelain by manufacturers such as Bing & Grøndahl, making his motifs widely appreciated and collectible.
